Job Opportunity: Sterile Processing Tech
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM)
- Schedule: Rotating weekends every other week (EOW), holidays as needed
- Work Radius: Local rate within 60 miles of facility
Required Qualifications
- Certification: IAHCSMM or HSPA Certification required
- Experience: Minimum 2 years as a Sterile Processing Tech with specific experience in:
- Decontamination and Disinfection
- Case Cart preparation
- Organizing trays and placing instruments on trays
- Preference cards management
- Proper labeling and selection of wrapping materials
- Sterilization wrapping procedures
- Sets/trays assembly and equipment documentation
- Use of Sterile Processing Microsystem (SPM)
- Specialty Equipment Processing Experience: Required with the following specialties:
Bariatric, Cardiac, Dental, Ear/Nose/Throat, General, Laparoscopic, Neurology, OB/GYN, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Plastics, Podiatry, Robotics, Transplant, Urology, and Vascular - Prior Travel Experience: At least 1 prior travel assignment required
- Preferred Skills:
- Experience in an acute care hospital preferred
- Aseptic Technique
- Cleaning equipment such as crash carts, IV pumps, PCA pumps
- Endoscopes and Scope/Probe Reprocessing, including Flexible Endoscope Reprocessing
Required Certifications & Compliance
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC certified
- Sterile Processing Tech (SPT) – Original copy of CBSPD certification required
- Background check within 90 days including criminal, education verification, and other required screenings
- Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
- Flu vaccine required (or approved medical/religious exemption)
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, with additional requirements if history of TB
- Other immunizations/documentation required: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella
Additional Requirements
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education and license information
- Valid driver's license if driving is an essential job function
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start
- Annual competency exams and safety manual acknowledgements as required

- This position requires working rotating weekends and holidays as needed.
- The facility has strict flu vaccine policies; exemptions are rarely approved.
- Candidates must be prepared to complete all required documentation and compliance steps prior to start.
