Registered Nurse - ICU

Location: Metairie, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience required
• Epic electronic health record experience required
• Patient ratio typically 1:2, may flex to 1:3
• Weekend shifts required: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• No call required
• Float required: will float to all ICUs and may float to Emergency Department (ED) or Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to care for ICU patients; occasional float to Medical-Surgical/Progressive Care Units with 1:4 patient ratios
• Nurses perform lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts
• Equipment used includes Alaris IV Pumps, CADD PCA pumps, Servo I ventilators, Fresenius CRRT Dialysis machines, Edwards Lifesciences cardiac monitors, Medtronic EVD management systems, Arctic Sun TMS, GE monitors, Hill Rom beds, Pyxis medication stations, and Veratron bladder scanner
• Must be able to care for isolation patients, including COVID-19 patients; know your N95 mask size
• Return to Office (RTO) limited to 5 days total

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, with ICU experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Certifications

• Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment

Required Competencies

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (updated annually)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (updated annually, minimum 80% score)
• Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, III) updated annually

Required Licenses

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing, verification required within 30 days of start

Health and Background Requirements

• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years; must include social security trace, county, nationwide, sex offender, federal extended, and FACIS Level 3 checks
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Physical exam not required but recommended within 12 months of start
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (two-step skin test or equivalent within 3 months of start)
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if titer low
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if titer low
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (with accepted medical/religious exemptions)
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel or expanded panel depending on hire date)

• Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps over 30 days
