Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – Adults

Location

  • Roanoke, Virginia

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Night shifts, primarily 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Option for 4x12-hour shifts available upon request
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
  • Must work at least one holiday during the 13-week contract

Job Description

  • Provide respiratory care in a high-volume Emergency Room at a Level 1 Trauma Center
  • Patient population includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
  • Must have critical care experience, including care for neurotrauma, cardiovascular services, and medical/surgical ICU patients
  • Responsibilities include aerosol and medication delivery, ABG interpretation, ventilator management, airway management, oxygen therapy, and nebulizer setups
  • Equipment used includes Servo I, Servo U, V-60 BiPAP, Optiflow heated high flow, iNO with iNOvent, and LTV1200
  • Floating within skillset required

Required Qualifications

Licensure & Certifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia
  • Must hold an active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certifications required

Experience & Clinical Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of respiratory therapist experience within the last year
  • Proficient in aerosol and medication delivery systems (mask, trach, MDI, Medihaler)
  • Skilled in administering medications such as Combivent
  • Competent in arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation and ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, flow-by, troubleshooting high-pressure ventilator alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
  • Airway management skills including extubation
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Documentation and Compliance Requirements

  • I-9 or attestation required
  • Valid Driver’s License or State ID with an address more than 100 miles from the facility is required within 48 hours of signing
  • E-Verify or attestation required
  • 7-year background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years, completed within 1 year of start date
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals/extensions
  • Education verification of highest earned degree required; transcript or diploma must be provided
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming freedom from communicable diseases
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually (not required for students)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • TB questionnaire required for all candidates
  • Photo for badge required (professional quality, plain background)
  • Completion of new hire paperwork and compliance checklists prior to start
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required prior to start
  • Two clinical references required
  • Skills checklist updated annually

Additional Notes

  • Charting experience with EPIC required
  • Facility allows one call-off shift per two weeks
  • Locals are not accepted due to radius restrictions
  • Floating within the respiratory therapy skillset is expected
  • Patient-to-therapist ratio approximately 1:25
  • Robust Assess and Treat protocols and ventilator management/liberation policies in place
