Job Opportunity: Step Down Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Utica, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 18:30–7:00)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Acuity

• IMCU (Intermediate Care Unit), 5th Floor
• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 4:1, may be 5:1 depending on patient acuity

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Intermediate Care nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience with drips including Neo up to 100, Precedex, and Insulin at IMCU level of care
• Experience with arterial lines (A-lines) and TR bands
• Post-procedural care experience
• Stroke patient care experience, including NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
• Ability to return to work within 7 days or less; only 1 holiday allowed off during contract

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG (updated annually)
• Education verification and Florida Education Audit Confirmation (for RN/LPN staff)
• Harassment Prevention Training Certificate (New York requirement, annual)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start date
• Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually (specific N95 masks required)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (PPD, Quantiferon Gold accepted; Tspot not accepted)
• Immunizations or proof of immunity:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
  • Varicella (positive titer, vaccine, or history of chickenpox)
• Drug screening: 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start (instant drug screen acceptable)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Sept 1–Mar 31)
• Pneumonia vaccination or declination required

Competency Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% or meet Angoff score)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and 7th Floor M/S Unit staff; expires every 3 years)
• Color blindness testing prior to start (no expiration)
• Skills checklist (annual)

Additional Facility Requirements

• Photo for badge: professional headshot, shoulders up, plain background, no head coverings or distracting gestures
• Completion of online learning modules prior to first shift
• Signing of facility-specific job description, welcome packet, Omnicell form, and pneumococcal declination if applicable
• Emergency contact form required before start
• Two professional references within 3 years for travel, allied, or per diem acute care nurses
