Job Opportunity: Medical Physicist (Travel/Contract)

Location: Salem, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in a full-service radiation oncology department with two Varian linacs.
  • Patient load: approximately 65 patients per day (mostly outpatient).
  • EMR systems used: Varian Aria and Eclipse.
  • Responsibilities include performing all types of chart checks, daily and monthly QA on the Varian TruBeam linacs and ARIA system.
  • Practice setting: hospital-based radiation oncology clinic.

Requirements

  • Specialty: Physicist (Therapeutic Medical Physics)
  • Board Certification: ABR board certified in therapeutic medical physics (required).
  • License: No state license required for physicists in Oregon.
  • Minimum Experience: 3 years in the specialty.
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not specified as required.

Skills & Competencies

  • Highly proficient with Varian TruBeam linacs and the ARIA system.
  • Ability to perform daily and monthly quality assurance on radiation oncology equipment.

Travel Logistics

  • Travel and lodging expenses covered by the client.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Clear copy of driver's license, passport, or state ID.
  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start (7-year search).
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and ongoing every 30 days.
  • Education verification (transcript or diploma accepted).
  • Physical exam within one year of start (can start with physical pending).
  • Drug testing (10-panel) within 90 days of start.
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination.
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) antibody titers or vaccinations.
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series (booster or declination if low titer).
    • Varicella antibody titer or vaccinations.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or signed declination (year-round requirement).
  • Fit mask testing to be completed onsite within the first week of starting (not required for some roles).
  • Badge photo required at least 8 days prior to start.

Additional Notes

  • References: 2 references within the last 2 years showing 1 year in a comparable specialty, with at least one supervisory reference within the last 12 months.
  • Competency exams and core clinical training modules may be required prior to start.
  • Background checks and verifications must be current and compliant with facility standards.
