Job Opportunity: Laboratory Specialist

Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Schedule: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (Days)
  • Workdays: Tuesday-Saturday or Wednesday-Sunday
  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years (will consider first-time travelers)
  • Certifications Required:
    • ASCP (required)
    • BLS (preferred)
    • ASCP-MLS (preferred)

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years in Laboratory specialty
  • No prior travel experience explicitly required

Certifications & Competencies

  • ASCP certification mandatory
  • BLS certification preferred
  • Other certifications may be applicable depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) – refer to job specifics
  • Competency exams required as applicable, must score 80% or higher

Compliance & Background Checks

  • I9 or Attestation required
  • Government Issued Photo ID required
  • E-Verify or Attestation required
  • Background check including 7-year criminal search within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Education verification for highest level of education
  • Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
  • Drug screening: Negative 9 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Latex Screen
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (some exceptions apply)
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted, series not accepted)
    • Varicella
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for units working with children)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes, updated annually
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID vaccine not required for this location, but documentation collected for tracking

Facility Specific Information

  • Uniform: Navy blue scrubs; pink scrubs for trauma; pediatric staff may wear child-friendly tops with navy blue pants
  • Dress code: Business casual for some departments; no jeans, open-toe shoes, sleeveless tops, or shorts in certain areas
  • Photo for badge: Passport-style photo with solid white/beige background required
  • Confidentiality agreement and other facility-specific documents must be signed prior to start

References & Employment History

  • Two supervisory references required within 1 year of start
  • Employment application/resume must be completed within 30 days of start
  • Verification of previous 5 years of employment required (attestation accepted if necessary)
