Overview

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• Cardiac Cath Lab experience within the last year
• 2 years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience
• ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Schedule

• Monday–Friday
• Call required one day per week and every fifth weekend
• No weekend requirement
• No float requirement
• Occasional late days may occur, typically 4–5 days per month

Clinical Setting

• Diagnostic and interventional cardiac cath lab
• Adult cardiovascular patients with diagnoses such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular disease, congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, pericardial disease, and pre-operative cardiac evaluation

Common Procedures and Skills

• Cardiac stent placement
• Diagnostic and interventional catheterizations
• PCI
• Left and right heart catheterization
• IABP placement/removal
• Pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring
• Procedural sedation administration/monitoring
• Sheath removal and monitoring
• Circulating procedures
• 12-lead EKG interpretation
• ACT monitoring
• Cardioversion
• IV therapy, including starting IVs, blood product administration, and IV infusion pumps
• Medication management including antiarrhythmics, antihypertensives, emergency medications, IV vasopressors, reversal agents, and thrombolytics

• ASD closures
• Cardiac implant closure device
• Impella insertion
• Rotablader atherectomy
• Scrub procedures
• TAVI/TAVR
• Angioplasty
• Dialysis graft interventions
• Upper and lower extremity angiography
• Central line, implanted port, and PICC care and maintenance
