Job Opportunity: Pediatrics Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Portland, Oregon
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • Pediatric Intermediate Care Unit (PIMC) providing intermediate level care for medical/surgical patients aged 0-18 (excluding obstetric patients).
  • Patient populations include non-ICU neurosurgical, video EEG, peritoneal dialysis, chronic trach/ventilated patients, select hyperbilirubinemia, select cardiac surgery, research patients, complex post-op including orthopedic spine, cranial, and bladder augmentations.

Job Description

  • Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care consistent with professional standards and ethics.
  • May be required to serve as charge RN on some shifts.
  • Work within an inter-professional team promoting collaborative decision-making, innovation, and lifelong learning.
  • Commitment to a culture of safety including just, reporting, learning, and engaged informed cultures.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 1 year of recent Pediatric Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with pediatric patients, including ventilator management.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with external ventricular drains (EVD) or peritoneal dialysis (PD).

Additional Requirements & Information

  • Must be fully available for compliance needs up until start date; notify if unavailable due to vacation or travel.
  • Facility requires completion and signing of professional appearance policy, job description, coronavirus protocol attestation, and other orientation documents prior to start.
  • RN candidates must complete specific online training modules before badge issuance.
  • Medication override test and other orientation materials will be provided for review but are not required before start.
  • References and background checks must be initiated within 24 hours of contract signing.
  • Return candidates with a gap of 60+ days must provide a reference from the previous direct supervisor.

Summary of Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (AHA provider only)
  • PALS (AHA provider only)
  • NRP
  • Ventilator experience required
  • Background check and work history verification
  • Drug screen (10-panel with methamphetamines)
  • Immunizations: Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu
  • Fit mask testing (N95 or equivalent)
  • Two professional references within 24 months
  • Completion of required online training modules prior to start
