Registered Nurse – PACU (Night Shift) – Columbus, Ohio

Position Details

• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Night shift, 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (11:00 PM – 9:00 AM)
• Hours per Week: 40 hours
• Schedule Notes: Includes weekend and holiday coverage; no on-call required at this time.

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA provider or instructor accepted; letter of completion not accepted.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA provider or instructor accepted; letter of completion not accepted.
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) Certification – Must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years if applicable to unit.
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – Required within 1 year of start and updated annually; minimum passing score 76%.
• Additional certifications may be unit-specific; verify during onboarding.

Required Experience and Skills

• Specialty: Registered Nurse with Level 1 Trauma experience.
• Experience with telemetry and ventilators.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Licensure

• Must hold an active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Ohio.
• License verification required within 30 days of start.
• NURSYS verification required for RN license.

Background and Screening Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including:

  • Social Security trace
  • Counties lived/worked
  • Nationwide search
  • Sex offender registry
  • Motor Vehicle Record (if driving is part of the job)
• FBI and BCI fingerprinting required using Ohio code 3701.881; must be completed within 1 year of start.
• Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
• Education accreditation verification required for nursing degree from an accredited program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene).
• Employment application and skills checklist required.
• Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
• Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles; must be valid for entire assignment.
• Immunizations/vaccinations required:

  • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; annual TB questionnaire in lieu of annual test.
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer).
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation).
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable).
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 – 3/31); decliners must wear a mask.
• COVID-19 vaccination is recommended but not required.

Competency and Orientation

• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
• Unit-specific competency exams required.
• Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement required.

Facility Policies and Compliance

• Candidates must review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policies.
• Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
• Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually.
• Confidential fraud, waste, and abuse reporting mechanism form required.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients.
• Proficient in ventilator management.
• Experience with telemetry.
• Current ACLS certification.
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• NIHSS certification.
