Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float Nurse

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri

Job Description

• Float to multiple ICUs including Trauma, Oncology, Cardiac/Heart and Vascular, Neurology, Medicine, and COVID units.
• If ICU needs are low, float to inpatient floors as a staff nurse with a maximum ratio of 1:3.
• May be asked to serve as a patient sitter if needed.
• ICU nurse-to-patient ratio: 2:1 for all shifts.
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule, plus holiday rotation.
• No specific CVICU experience required.
• Preferred (not required) cardiac skills: Swan-Ganz catheter hemodynamic interpretation, IABP, Impella, ECMO, vasoactive drips, CRRT.
• Required skills: ventilator management, IV starts, telemetry, conscious sedation.
• Preferred skills: triage, ICP monitoring, PA lines, Level 1 trauma experience.
• Past experience with EPIC electronic health record system strongly preferred.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri.
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including ICU experience within the last year.
• Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
• Float nursing experience across multiple units.
• Current certifications: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Shift Details

• Day shift: 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM (3 shifts per week)
• 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week

Facility & Work Environment

• Short Term Acute Care facility.
• Charting system: EPIC.
• Free parking available.
• Scrub color: Navy Blue.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued ID required.
• Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches.
• Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
• Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start.
• Professional license primary source verification required (NURSYS for Missouri).
• Drug testing within 1 year, including a comprehensive panel, must be current throughout assignment.
• Physical exam within 1 year required.
• Fit mask testing (N95) required annually; must be able to pass fit test or follow facility protocol.
• Immunizations/vaccinations or documented immunity required for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (or declination)
  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, with yearly TB questionnaire.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept-April).
• Required facility-specific documents prior to start:

  • HIPAA Acknowledgement
  • Latex Allergy Questionnaire
  • Confidentiality Form
  • Regulatory Compliance Education (annual quiz with 80% passing score)
  • Hand Hygiene Policy acknowledgment
  • Fingernail Policy acknowledgment
  • Dress Code Policy acknowledgment
  • Orientation modules (approx. 16 hours) completed via online platform unless completed in current calendar year.
• Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months).

Additional Requirements

• Two professional references required; supervisors within the last year preferred.
• Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start; oncology skills checklist required for Med Surg-Oncology unit.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses with prior travel assignments who are comfortable floating across multiple critical care units and inpatient floors.
