Registered Nurse – Hematology (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (5x8 hours)
Patient Population: Adult outpatient clinic – classical hematology (bleeding disorders, hemophilia, anemias, sickle cell, DVTs)

  • No malignant hematology or oncology patients in this clinic

Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in an outpatient hematology clinic focused on non-malignant hematology conditions
  • Responsibilities include: rooming patients, phlebotomy, central line care, assisting with bone marrow biopsies, vaccinations, EKGs, phone triage, scheduling for infusions, patient education, and case management
  • Manual differentials are performed by lab personnel, not RNs
  • Chemotherapy and infusions are not administered in this clinic
  • Average daily census: ~70 patients
  • No call, float, or weekend requirements
  • Clinic closed on major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of oncology experience, with oncology experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Phlebotomy skills
  • Ability to perform central line care (central line access)
  • Experience assisting with bone marrow biopsies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Oncology clinic experience preferred
  • Certifications such as ONS, BMTCN, or OCN are a plus

Orientation & Training

  • Unit orientation: 24 hours
  • Scrubs: Navy blue (not provided)
  • Interview required prior to offer

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including local, federal, national criminal, DOJ sex offender, and education verification
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (if applicable)
  • Immunizations/titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (facility-specific declination form if titer negative), seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility policy
  • Required facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, and annual compliance training
  • Medication safety training and competency exams as applicable
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam not required for this outpatient clinic setting
  • References: 2 professional references within 3 years for travel/per diem acute care

Additional Notes

  • No chemotherapy or infusion administration in this role
  • Clinic focuses on benign hematology diagnoses only
  • RNs must bring their own stethoscope
  • Candidate must be available for interview within 72 hours of submission
  • Candidate must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and credentialing requirements prior to start
