Maternal Fetal Ultrasound Technologist

Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Employment Type: Clinical Allied Health
Shift: Days (4 x 10-hour shifts, Monday through Thursday)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Assist radiologists in performing invasive diagnostic techniques specialized in maternal fetal ultrasound.
• Provide standardization and training to residents on maternal fetal ultrasound exams.
• Consult with patients to evaluate contraindications such as medications, preparation, or tolerance issues.
• Perform ultrasound procedures under general or direct supervision as required.
• Conduct essential maternal-fetal ultrasound exams including:

  • Detailed anatomical evaluation
  • Complete fetal echocardiogram
  • Growth assessment
  • Fetal wellbeing assessments (biophysical profiles, maternal/fetal Doppler, amniotic fluid assessments)
  • Needle procedure guidance
  • Maternal pelvic anatomy exams including transvaginal cervical assessment
  • Advanced diagnostic 3D/4D techniques
• Record anatomical, pathological, and physiological data for physician interpretation.
• Assist physicians with invasive procedures as needed.
• Analyze sonography findings during exams to ensure comprehensive data collection.
• Recognize abnormalities requiring radiologist’s direct observation.
• Capture images and Doppler signals simultaneously for diagnostic evaluation.
• Communicate preliminary diagnostic information to radiologists and referring OB providers.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Ultrasound Technologist license in North Carolina
• Minimum 3 years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist, including experience within the last year
• Experience in Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonography, OB/GYN Sonography, and Vascular Sonography
• Completion of a 12-month Diagnostic Medical Sonography, General Ultrasound, or equivalent certificate program
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Registered with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
• Fetal Echocardiography (FE) certification

Skills & Expertise

• Maternal-fetal ultrasound techniques including detailed anatomical and fetal echocardiogram evaluations.
• Growth and fetal wellbeing assessments using biophysical profiles and Doppler imaging.
• Needle procedure guidance and advanced 3D/4D diagnostic imaging.
• Patient consultation and training of residents in ultrasound procedures.
• Ultrasonic diagnostic procedures and sonography analysis.

Work Schedule

• 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (Monday through Thursday)
• Total 40 hours per week
