Job Opportunity: Clinical Lab Scientist

Location: Mission Viejo, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work schedule: 8-hour shifts, AM hours (4:00 AM - 12:30 PM weekdays; 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM weekends)
• Must have strong blood bank experience due to trauma hospital setting with frequent massive transfusions
• Experience in hematology, chemistry, and/or blood bank required
• May be scheduled to float between two nearby locations
• Weekend shifts may be more frequent than every other weekend to meet department needs
• Scheduling requests due to outside employment will not be considered
• Local radius for assignment is 50 miles

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Laboratory specialty
• Prior travel experience not explicitly required
• Must hold a valid California state license for Clinical Lab Scientist
• BLS certification required
• ASCP certification preferred but not mandatory
• Pending licenses are not accepted
• First-time travelers will not be considered unless a strong candidate

Additional Requirements & Notes

• Must be willing to float between locations as needed
• Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off once per two-week pay period
• Background checks, education verifications, and various state-specific screenings required as per standard healthcare travel contract protocols
• Physical exam, immunizations (including TB, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu, COVID), drug screening, and respirator clearance required
• Completion of required regulatory and specialty-specific training modules annually via LMS platform
• References: Minimum of 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting
• Employment application covering at least last 5 years required
• Photo for badge required prior to start

Certifications & Competencies

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Blood bank expertise essential
• Other certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, Chemotherapy, and others may be required depending on clinical track but are not mandatory for this role
• Medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable

Health & Safety

• Physical exam within 1 year of start date
• Fit mask testing required (except for Medical Lab Scientists)
• Immunizations and titers as per healthcare standards (TB, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu, COVID)
• Drug screening within 90 days of start date

Important Notes for Candidates

• Must be able to work the specified shifts and float as needed
• Strong blood bank experience is critical due to trauma hospital environment
• No exceptions for pending licenses or first-time travelers without strong qualifications
• Compliance with all background checks, health documents, and training modules is mandatory
