Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Jefferson City, Missouri
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Position requires working every other weekend and floating to different units as needed.
- No local candidates within 50 miles accepted.
- Active role involving ambulating, reaching, and moving objects over 20 lbs.
- Exposure to patients with contagious illnesses is routine.
- Facility operates 24/7, 365 days a year; rotating shifts, holidays, and inclement weather work required.
- Must be able to:
- Work full contract term at assigned location
- Work substantial portion of assigned shifts
- Take call as needed
- Work assigned weekends
- Work at least 50% of holidays during contract
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC Provider card required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC Provider card required
- NIH Stroke Certification - Preferred but not required
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., TNCC for ER RNs starting 11/5/2024)
Required Licenses and Verifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license for Missouri
- NURSYS verification within 60 days of start
- Photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required
- Primary source verification of state license within 60 days of start
Experience
- Open to first-time travelers (no prior travel experience required)
- Minimum years of specialty experience not explicitly stated; assume standard RN experience expected
Background and Screening Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 60 days of start, including alias search, counties lived/worked/school, national and federal criminal searches, sex offender search, social security trace, and exclusions lists (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
- International background check required if candidate has traveled outside the USA in the last 7 years
- Missouri Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) or Missouri Caregiver search must be on file within 60 days of start (cannot start with both pending)
- Drug screening: Negative 7-panel drug test within 60 days of start
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (must be initiated within 48 hours of signing)
- Fit mask test valid within 1 year (specific mask models required)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years or approved exemption
- Negative TB test (QGold, TSpot, or 2-step PPD) within 1 year, updated annually; chest x-ray and INH treatment documentation required if positive TB history
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines required; no declinations accepted, medical exemptions require facility approval
- Hepatitis B: Complete series or positive/reactive titer required; declinations no longer accepted for new candidates after 7/1/2023
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted, medical exemptions require facility approval
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
Additional Requirements
- Photo for badge (new candidates only)
- Completion of facility-specific forms including confidentiality agreement, new hire packet, TB survey, and employment eligibility certification within 60 days of start
- Resume must document at least 7 years of employment history with no gaps over 30 days; updated for each new position
- Two professional references from the last 2 years required
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Very active role requiring physical stamina
- Exposure to contagious illnesses
- Must be able to work rotating shifts, holidays, and during inclement weather
Preferred Skills/Systems
- Experience with Cerner electronic health record system preferred
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
