Registered Nurse - Telemetry (Travel/Contract)

Location: Harvey, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45 - 7:15)
Patient Ratio: 1:6

Job Description

• Assess acute changes in patients in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with chronic ventilator patients required.
• Use and interpretation of EKG rhythm strips mandatory; must pass EKG strip test at orientation.
• Preferred skills include initiating and maintaining cardiac drips such as dobutamine, amiodarone, and cardizem.
• Floating to other units required.
• Weekend work required every other weekend.
• First-time travel nurses accepted.
• Block scheduling is not accommodated.
• Charting system: Epic.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
• Minimum of 1 year of Telemetry nursing experience within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Background and Verification Requirements

• 7-year background check including aliases, sex offender registry, national and federal criminal checks, FACIS III, education verification, and international checks if applicable.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
• Education verification required for highest level of education (ADN or BSN for RN). Diplomas/transcripts accepted if verification unavailable.
• Employment verification covering last 7 years required.
• Skills checklist for assigned and float units must be updated annually.
• Two professional references required.
• Current resume with last 7 years of employment history; gaps over 30 days must be explained.

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually, confirming good health.
• Fit mask test within 1 year prior to start (3M 1860 S/R, 1870+, or 9205+ masks accepted). Onsite fit testing available if needed.
• Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 1 year, updated annually; if positive, clear chest X-ray within past 12 months and completed TB questionnaire required.
• Proof of immunization or positive titer for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (declination allowed)
  • Varicella
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within last 10 years (Tdap required, TD not accepted).
• Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start.
• Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (10/1 to 3/31) or approved medical/religious exemption.

Additional Facility Requirements

• Completion of facility-specific orientation modules (~2 hours) prior to start.
• Passport-style photo for badge required.
• COVID-19 and Influenza vaccine exemption forms available; must be submitted at least one week prior to documentation due date for review and approval.
• Illinois Department of Public Health fingerprinting required for candidates without an Illinois state license; prints must be completed in Illinois no later than the Monday before start date.

This position offers a challenging opportunity for a Telemetry RN with at least one year of experience, strong cardiac monitoring skills, and the ability to work nights and float as needed.
