Job Opportunity: Echo Tech / Cardiac Sonographer
Location: Whittier, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (7:30 AM - 3:30 PM) or Evening (2:00 PM - 10:00 PM), 5 days a week, 8 hours per day (40 hours/week)
Call: 1-2 weekends per month, plus 3 call shifts per month
Job Description
- Must have both cardiac and vascular experience (non-negotiable).
- Variable start times available: 7:30 AM, 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM, or 2:00 PM.
- Work involves adult acute care settings including ICU and ED.
- Procedures include:
- 2-D Echo, Bubble Study, Color Doppler, M-Mode
- Imaging with Contrast Agents
- Right Ventricular Inflow and Outflow Tract imaging
- Diastology, LV Strain/LV Volume, Simpson’s Rule
- Portable studies and routine exams
- Obtaining 12 lead EKG/ECG
- Required vascular skills:
- Carotid Doppler studies, Duplex scanning
- Lower Extremity Venous, Peripheral Vascular Resistance
- Transcranial Doppler
- Upper Extremity Arterial and Venous studies
- Preferred experience with neonatal heart imaging.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer.
- Cardiac Sonographer experience within the last year.
- Experience as a Vascular Sonographer.
- Current ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) or CCI (Cardiovascular Credentialing International) certification.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography)
- CCI RCS (Cardiovascular Credentialing International Registered Cardiac Sonographer)
- Current state license verification required within 14 days prior to start.
Required Training & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required for all clinical starts.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required as applicable (e.g., Cath Lab, ER, ICU, IR, PACU, Telemetry, L&D).
- Pass/fail competency exams including EKG/Dysrhythmia testing may be required depending on unit assignment.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with a minimum passing score of 80%.
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history and federal exclusions (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG).
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start, confirming freedom from communicable disease and ability to perform job duties without limitations.
- Negative 7-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start and annually thereafter if required by unit. Religious exemptions available with documentation.
- Annual TB testing or chest x-ray and TB questionnaire.
- Required immunizations or documented immunity (or declination forms) for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
- Hepatitis B (3-dose series, positive titer, or declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31).
- COVID-19 vaccination or facility-specific declination during flu season; unvaccinated must wear masks in patient care areas.
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license or state ID).
- Emergency contact form required prior to start.
- Employment application/resume with at least 1 year of relevant work experience and 7 years of work history documented.
- Two professional references from managers or charge nurses within 2 years of start.
- Skills checklist updated annually (not required for non-licensed workers).
- Facility-specific onboarding modules must be completed prior to start date.
- Photo for badge with white background, shoulders up, required before start.
- Completion of workplace violence prevention or crisis prevention training with an in-person component may be required depending on unit assignment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with neonatal heart imaging.
