Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Shift: Night shift (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work primarily on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department and other stepdown/PCU units.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
- Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition and medication administration competency testing (SafeMedicate); passing scores required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Stepdown nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- Current certifications required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license) must be carried on assignment.
- Background check including 7-year FCRA-compliant search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) completed within 12 months and updated annually. Fingerprinting must be done under nursing code 4723.09. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start date confirming ability to perform essential job functions; latex allergy notification required if applicable.
- Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 or 1870+) within 12 months, updated annually; religious/medical exemptions require approval.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 12 months or chest X-ray if prior positive
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titers with booster if needed
- Hepatitis B – titer, series, or declination with agency-approved exemption
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (no declinations accepted; exemptions require agency approval)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually; instant drug screens not accepted.
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start date.
Orientation & Training
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start is mandatory; modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome.
- Modules include safety, medication administration, and facility policies.
- Candidates with less than 6 months gap from previous assignment at the facility may be exempt from some orientation requirements.
References & Work History
- Two professional references required from employment within the past year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
- Employment application must include at least 3 years of prior work history with a minimum of 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar specialty area.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to complete competency exams during orientation with required passing scores (SafeMedicate 90%, ECG 80%).
- Travel experience in Stepdown or PCU settings is acceptable to meet experience requirements.
- Must be able to work night shifts exclusively (3x12-hour shifts).
- Must comply with all health, safety, and credentialing requirements prior to start.
