ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (ICU)
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
- Time Off (RTO) Policy:
- Maximum 5 days off with no more than 2 consecutive days
- No time off allowed on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
- Floating: Mandatory float within ICU units (Burn ICU, CCU, Medical ICU, SICU, Neuro ICU) and possibly to Medical-Surgical units as needed
- Orientation: First week includes orientation and precepting on day shift
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Bystander Intervention Training
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, required annually; medical or religious exemptions require approval for onsite PAPR use
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination (declination must be within 12 months)
- Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually; PPDs not accepted after 12/15/2025
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster required if low titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – May 4)
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually; marijuana testing not required
Background and Documentation
- Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually
- Additional required screenings within 30 days of start: EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG
- Illinois Health Care Worker Registry verification (not required for RNs)
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Complete application/resume and skills checklist annually
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam and competency exam required within 12 months of start (for starts on/after 4/14/24)
- Color blind testing required within 12 months of start (for starts on/after 1/16/24)
Additional Notes
- This is a mandatory float facility; ICU nurses must be flexible to float between ICU units and possibly medical-surgical units
- Orientation week is on day shift before transitioning to night shift
- Local candidates preferred but travel candidates accepted
- No call requirements
