Travel Registered Nurse – Stepdown Neuro
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Population
- Mixed Acuity: Medical Surgical, Telemetry, and Stepdown care
- 48-bed unit specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery
- Patient conditions include strokes, aneurysms, seizures, spinal fusions, brain and spinal cord tumors, and other neurological disorders
- Eight beds equipped for long-term EEG monitoring
- Multi-care level unit; nurses may care for up to six Med Surg patients simultaneously
Shift & Schedule
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat night)
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s)
- Float requirement: Travelers are first to float and must be prepared to float frequently within scope, including to other campuses/units
Staffing Ratios
- Medical Surgical/Telemetry: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights (rare)
- Stepdown: 1:3-4 (days and nights)
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Valid RN license in Nebraska
- Driver's License
- Minimum 2 years of PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience
- PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment
- Experience with Epic
- ACLS
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- PALS
- NRP
- NIHSS
Facility & Work Environment
- 100% nicotine-free facility
- Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and some LPNs
- Mandatory scrubs: Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)
- Parking permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking option
Background & Health Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county and federal checks
- Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually
- Physical exam and fit mask test within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap within last 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray with TB questionnaire if positive history
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (boosters if needed)
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- Varicella vaccines or positive titer (boosters if needed)
- Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
- COVID vaccine preferred (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
- Eye exam required only for OR staff (not applicable here)
Additional Notes
- Locals not accepted; candidate must live more than 100 miles from facility
- Return to Origin (RTO) allowed up to 2 weeks, with manager approval for additional time
- References: 2 work references from past 2 years required (1 must be most recent employer if not a current traveler)
