Registered Nurse — Medical-Surgical/Telemetry

Overview

• Travel/contract role in Wilmington, North Carolina
• 13-week contract
• Night shift: 3x12 hours, 6:45 PM–7:15 AM
• 36 or 48 hours accepted
• Local candidates accepted
• First-time travelers accepted

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• Med Surg / Telemetry (2 years of experience)
• Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Key Clinical Skills

• Medical-surgical and telemetry care
• Remote telemetry monitoring
• Dysrhythmia interpretation
• Rapid Response Team use
• IV insulin protocols
• Central line, PICC, peripheral IV, and phlebotomy skills
• Blood product administration
• Chest tube management
• CPAP/BiPAP and high-flow oxygen support
• Isolation precautions
• Wound care and wound vac management
• Feeding tube and colostomy care
• Hemodialysis-related care
• Heparin and PCA management

Schedule and Unit Expectations

• Floating is required
• Weekend requirement: 12–16 per contract
• Target ratio: 1:5–6
• Unit orientation: 24 hours
• Hospital orientation occurs during the first week, with daily class attendance required
• RTO after booking is not allowed
• May be required to work during storm, hurricane, disaster, or mass-casualty events

Patient Population

• Adult medical-surgical patients with diagnoses including dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, and hip fracture

Work Environment

• Navy/white scrubs
• Uses Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR for medication, documentation, and communication

Additional Notes

• Must be available for unit-based scheduling
• COVID isolation area is part of the unit
• Stepdown patients are managed by stepdown staff, not medical-surgical staff
