Registered Nurse - Endoscopy Center
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week
Hours: 9-hour shifts (typically starting between 6:30 AM and 8:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide direct nursing care to patients undergoing routine gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures (colonoscopy and upper endoscopy) including preparation, intra-procedure monitoring, and recovery phases. Administer moderate sedation under physician direction. Collaborate with unit staff and delegate tasks to unlicensed personnel as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care based on patient and family needs.
- Implement and modify nursing interventions and patient care procedures throughout the care continuum.
- Prepare patients for procedures, including health history review, IV insertion, and patient education.
- Monitor and sedate patients during procedures.
- Provide care in both phase 1 and phase 2 recovery areas.
- Assist anesthesia providers during cases requiring anesthesia involvement.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
- Promote patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
- Communicate effectively with team members and provide constructive feedback to peers.
- Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.
- Float between the Endoscopy Center and Digestive Health Department as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
- Minimum of 3 years of endoscopy nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association.
- Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience and competency in administering moderate sedation.
Skills and Experience
- Proficient in patient assessment, endoscopy procedures, moderate sedation, and health history review.
- Ability to provide comprehensive patient care in a fast-paced outpatient setting.
- Experience with documentation and nursing process application.
