Registered Nurse - Endoscopy Center

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Nursing
Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week
Hours: 9-hour shifts (typically starting between 6:30 AM and 8:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Provide direct nursing care to patients undergoing routine gastrointestinal endoscopy procedures (colonoscopy and upper endoscopy) including preparation, intra-procedure monitoring, and recovery phases. Administer moderate sedation under physician direction. Collaborate with unit staff and delegate tasks to unlicensed personnel as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care based on patient and family needs.
• Implement and modify nursing interventions and patient care procedures throughout the care continuum.
• Prepare patients for procedures, including health history review, IV insertion, and patient education.
• Monitor and sedate patients during procedures.
• Provide care in both phase 1 and phase 2 recovery areas.
• Assist anesthesia providers during cases requiring anesthesia involvement.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care.
• Promote patient and employee safety by identifying and addressing hazards.
• Communicate effectively with team members and provide constructive feedback to peers.
• Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.
• Float between the Endoscopy Center and Digestive Health Department as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
• Minimum of 3 years of endoscopy nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association.
• Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Experience and competency in administering moderate sedation.

Skills and Experience

• Proficient in patient assessment, endoscopy procedures, moderate sedation, and health history review.
• Ability to provide comprehensive patient care in a fast-paced outpatient setting.
• Experience with documentation and nursing process application.
