Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Job Summary

A Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the care of a group of patients, focusing on safe, effective, patient- and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes. The RN assists in maintaining a financially stable unit and promotes professional development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education. The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members and applies the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans. The role includes mentoring and precepting staff.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform assessments and reassessments according to policy or patient condition, making sound independent decisions.
• Initiate, prioritize, implement, and revise the plan of care in collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Monitor and document patient responses to clinical interventions.
• Provide and evaluate education tailored to patient and family needs during the stay and at discharge.
• Delegate tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel; serve as a mentor/preceptor.
• Encourage teamwork and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Participate in quality, safety, and service improvement efforts and implement practice changes.
• Comply with regulatory standards and participate in the Practice Governance model.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
• Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience, including 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
• PCU experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
