• Beds: 24

• Specialties: Cardiac stepdown, lung transplant, chronic pulmonary (CP), myocardial infarction (MI), pre-transplant, esophagectomy, ER overflow, detox
• Teaching Hospital: Yes, nursing students present
• Associated Institutes: Barrow Neuro Institute (world’s #1 neuro institute)
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3-4 depending on acuity
• Charge Nurse: Present; nurses do not take patients unless high census
• Nurse Aides: 2 PCTs on days and nights
• Weekend Requirement: 3 out of 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period
• Holiday Coverage: Integrated into holiday rotation
• Scrub Color: Navy
• Telemetry Monitors: Philips; RNs must interpret EKGs
• Ventilators: CPAP, high flow available
• IV Team: SWAT RN available for difficult IV sticks
• Respiratory Therapy: 24/7 coverage
• Pharmacy: 24/7 with pharmacist on floor during day
• Floating: May float to other telemetry units (T5, T6, Neuro Tele)
• Orientation: 3 days floor-specific orientation

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years CORE experience in specialty
  • Level 1 Trauma experience required
  • Previous travel experience required for ED, Neuro ICU
• Certifications:

  • ACLS (AHA)
  • BLS (AHA)
• Dysrhythmia Exam:

  • Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance
  • Maximum 2 attempts allowed
  • Required for Cardiac Telemetry and other critical units
  • Failure results in 6-month disqualification within CommonSpirit AZ and Sacramento Region
• Hair & Appearance:

  • Natural hair colors only (no unnatural colors)
  • No facial piercings allowed
  • Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
• Other:

  • Must pass Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation
  • SIMs Lab required for Foley catheter insertion & central line dressing changes (pass/fail)
  • Competency in sterile field maintenance is critical
  • Must have own vehicle if part of a travel team
  • Cannot hold concurrent contracts with Dignity AZ
  • Must have been off CommonSpirit permanent staff for 12 months to qualify for travel assignment
  • 50-mile radius rule applies (no local rate)

Contract Details

• Minimum Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Contract Length Interpretation: 13 weeks (minimum)

Additional Notes

• Parking assigned with shuttle service to facility (night shift parking in garage)
• Travelers may be expected to precept nursing students
• No transplant patients assigned to travelers
• Non-titrating drips only
• Facility enforces strict onboarding deadlines; all documentation must be complete by Wednesday 1pm CST before start date or start will be delayed

This position is ideal for experienced cardiac telemetry nurses with strong critical care skills, trauma experience, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, teaching hospital environment.
