Registered Nurse – Nephrology
Location: Farmington, New Mexico
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Facility & Unit Overview
- Level III trauma center with 198 beds
- Nephrology unit is an extension of the Med/Surg units
- Unit size: 24 beds
- Patient population: Geriatric and adult patients
- Patient ratios: 1:4 to 1:6
- Equipment includes VS machine, bladder scanner, lifts, thermal imaging, IV pumps/tubes
- Electronic Health Record system: Cerner
- Shift: Days, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
- Weekend requirement: Minimum 2 weekend shifts per month
- Call: None required
- Float: As needed per facility needs
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Nephrology nursing experience
Job Responsibilities & Skills
- Care for patients with diagnoses such as End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), Peritoneal Dialysis, and Hemodialysis
- Work within a multidisciplinary team in a nephrology/med-surg setting
- Ability to float to other units as needed
- Observation unit experience is a plus

- Position requires submission of resume, skills checklist, area-specific competency exam, and screening questions
- Located in a scenic area with access to outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and sightseeing

Pros
Unit is comprised of many travelers. Core staff and travelers have all been fantastic! The unit is set up quite well to manage the surges of patients. It is the only main hospital around so it can definitely provide good experience. Most of the providers I've encountered over the last couple months actually listen to the nurses and are easy to work with.
Cons
It is definitely busy before the size of the town. I can't say I have any other cons.
