Registered Nurse (RN) - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Location: El Paso, Texas
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
Hours per Week: 36

Unit Overview

Pediatric unit with 19 beds total: 10 PICU beds and 9 Pediatric beds
Staff: 27 total (Day shift: 1 Charge Nurse + 3-4 Nurses; Night shift: 1 Charge Nurse + 3-4 Nurses)
Patient Ratios:
- PICU: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Intermediate Care (IMC): 1:3 (or 1:4 with Patient Care Technician)
- Pediatrics: 1:5 (or 1:6 with Patient Care Technician)
Equipment includes Hillrom beds, GC monitors, ICU Medial Plum 360 pumps, and Medfusion syringe pumps
Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: Meditech
No call requirements
Weekend shifts: 4 per month (AM shifts cover Saturday and Sunday; PM shifts cover Friday and Saturday)

Job Description

Provide nursing care in a pediatric intensive care setting
Care for a wide range of patients from post-surgical appendicitis to critically ill patients with septic shock requiring vasoactive drips and mechanical ventilation
Typical procedures performed:
- Lumbar punctures
- Intubations
- Chest tube placements
- Conscious sedation

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
Minimum 1 year of recent Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience working with pediatric patients and pediatrics in general
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Life Support (ALS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Additional Information

Dress code: Galaxy blue scrubs required
Permanent positions available on the unit
