Pediatric Acute RN

Overview

• 13-week contract in Peoria, Illinois
• Nights, 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS (AHA)
• PALS (AHA)
• Last four digits of SSN
• Middle initial
• Requested time off
• Negative drug screen for all panels

Unit Details

• Pediatric Acute unit
• 22 beds on the unit, with an additional 10 beds shared with Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
• Charge RN and Pediatric crisis RN available 24/7
• Pediatric monitor tech watches monitored patients
• Hospitalist in house until approximately midnight, with 24/7 resident coverage

Patient Population

• Medical/surgical pediatric patients
• Examples include hyperbili, neuro, diabetes, failure to thrive, cystic fibrosis, COVID, and ortho

Responsibilities and Clinical Scope

• May care for monitored patients
• May need to troubleshoot heated high flow and BiPAP with specific parameters in place

Scheduling

• Every other weekend required
• Holidays required unless discussed and approved during the interview phase
• Call is not mandatory at this time
• Orientation is 2 shifts and may be extended if needed

Floating

• May float within the children’s hospital to other pediatric units
• May float to mom/baby for a baby assignment
• No ICU floating unless experienced
• No chemo patients

Dress Code

• Pediatric-appropriate scrub top in any color or pattern
• Solid color scrub pants
• Solid color long sleeve under scrub top or scrub jacket allowed if cold
