Description
Under general supervision, following established policies, procedures, and professional guidelines, delivers nursing care to patients. Plans and implements nursing care; documents nursing assessments; identifies and reports situations requiring further intervention; formulates and communicates goal-directed plan of care; assures patient rights. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital and principles of quality improvement.
Essential Functions:
- Performs comprehensive nursing assessments for oncology patients, including symptom evaluation, medication reconciliation, vital signs, fall risk screening, distress screening, and treatment readiness assessments.
- Monitors patient response to cancer therapies and disease progression, identifying changes in condition and escalating concerns appropriately.
- Provides direct nursing care within the ambulatory oncology clinic consistent with RN scope of practice and organizational protocols.
- Collaborates closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, navigators, pharmacists, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure timely and coordinated care.
- Educates patients on pre-treatment requirements, post-procedure expectations, and survivorship or ongoing care needs as appropriate.
- Works collaboratively with Oncology Nurse Navigators and support services to ensure seamless transitions across settings and phases of care.
- Facilitates timely access to care and reduces delays by proactively managing follow-up, referrals, and coordination activities
- Responds to patient and caregiver inquiries through phone or electronic communication, providing clinical guidance, education, and escalation per protocol.
- Accurately documents assessments, interventions, patient education, and care coordination activities in the electronic medical record.
- Practices within the scope of Registered Nurse licensure, adhering to evidence-based oncology nursing standards
Engages in ongoing professional development to maintain oncology knowledge, clinical competency, and certification readiness.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Florida Department of Health Nursing License
- Minimum one (1) year of oncology nursing experience (inpatient or outpatient)
- ONC Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Preferred
- Basic Life Support
- OCN Preferred
- US guided peripheral IV access experience preferred
