Job Overview

• Position: Operating Room Technician (OR Tech / Surgical Technologist)
• Location: Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio
• Shift: Variable days/evenings; 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shifts
• Listed Shift: Day, 4×10 hours
• Start Time: Variable; listed schedule shows 06:30–23:30
• Call: Required
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Guaranteed Hours:40
• Local Candidates: Accepted at the same rate
• COVID-19 Vaccine: yes
• Flu Vaccine: Required; medical exemptions only

Mandatory Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of OR Tech experience.
• Previous travel experience required.
• BLS certification required.
• Level I trauma experience required in the main description.
• Weekend and holiday coverage as needed.
• Call availability required.
• Two professional references required:
  • At least one manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader.
  • The second may be a Charge RN.
  • Coworker references are not accepted.
• RTO must be submitted with the application and included in the contract.
• Candidate must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing the contract.

Required Specialty Experience – Confirm Y/N

The recruiter must confirm the candidate's experience with each of the following:

• Eyes / ophthalmology
• Da Vinci Xi robotic system
• Liver transplant
• Neuro
• Orthopedics

Additional preferred experience: Ortho trauma, ortho spine, neuro spine, craniotomies, burns, bariatrics, robotics, and transplant procedures.

Call Schedule

• Monday–Friday: 21:00–06:30
• Saturday and Sunday: 06:30–19:00 and 19:00–06:30
• Weekend, holiday, and additional call coverage may be required based on unit needs.

Clinical Skills and Procedures

• General, abdominal, and laparoscopic surgery
• Orthopedic and spinal procedures
• Neurological procedures and craniotomies
• Ophthalmology and eye trauma
• Da Vinci robotic surgery, including Xi and SP systems
• Liver and other transplant procedures
• Trauma and burn cases
• Bariatric and colorectal surgery
• Gynecological and urological procedures
• Instrument processing, sterilization, and aseptic technique
• Surgical specimen handling, safety protocols, and universal time-out procedures

Facility & Documentation

• Facility Type: Teaching hospital / Level I trauma center
• Charting System: Epic preferred
• Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
• Community Hospital Experience: Preferred
• LTAC Experience: Preferred
• Previous Charge Experience: Not required
