Job Summary
The respiratory care practitioner (RCP) shall provide respiratory care to patients, and assist with functions necessary to support departmental functions.  In addition, the RCP performs respiratory therapy in all non-critical areas, as well as critical care areas under minimal supervision.  He/she shall complete established competencies for the position within the designated periods, and retain all applicable licensures and certifications necessary to provide respiratory care.
The Advanced Clinical Respiratory Care Practitioner provides complex patient care utilizing the most advanced concepts of Respiratory Therapy and patient focused care.  The Advanced Clinical Respiratory Care Practitioner is actively involved with department protocols.  He/she is a strong team member who acts as a resource as well as being involved with orientation and training of staff in the adult and pediatric care areas. Pulmonary Services is a full service 24-hour department performing both diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.  A Medical Director oversees the standard of care provided.  <ol><li>Performs direct and indirect respiratory care services; including but not limited to: the administration of pharmacological agents, pulmonary diagnostics (e.g. point of care testing), clinical documentation and care planning, as well as therapeutic treatments related to respiratory care procedures necessary to implement a treatment, disease prevention, pulmonary rehabilitative or diagnostic regimen prescribed by a physician or surgeon.</li><li>Practices in accordance with regulatory standards and maintains compliance with facility policies and procedures.</li><li>Establishes and maintains professional relationships with colleagues, physicians, and other care providers.</li><li>Acts as a resource/consultant for other respiratory care practitioners and affiliated health care practitioners on pulmonary aspects of patient care interventions.</li><li>Responds to emergency situations and facility CODEs.</li><li>Maintains competencies to ensure compliance with all regulatory statues.</li><li>Reports unusual patient conditions/reactions when identified to an immediate supervisor, including completion of a facility electronic occurrence report as appropriate.</li><li>Prepares and maintains electronic documentation of all work/services rendered, providing written/verbal hand-off communication to oncoming staff.</li><li>Helps perform quality control and maintenance on respiratory care equipment, including blood gas analyzers when appropriate.</li><li>Helps maintain a safe working environment, including utilizing facility resources efficiently and effectively.</li><li>Accurately identifies and addresses patient population specific needs.</li><li>Participates in performance improvement activities, including department and facility-based quality measures.</li><li>Assists with orientation, education, and training of department staff as appropriate</li></ol>

**Up to $10,000 Sign on for Qualified Candidates** GENERAL DUTIES: Support and assist the development of the Rehabilitation Program area(s) assigned and for the provision of occupational therapy services.  Rehabilitation Services at Desert Regional Medical Center may include the provision of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and recreational therapy to patients on acute units, Acute Rehab, the Skilled Nursing Facility, and in the Out-Patient Program.  These programs provide services to include orthopedic, medical, medical-surgical, and neuro-rehab, among others. Occupational therapy services will be provided to infants, children, adolescents, adults and the geriatric population as indicated by qualified therapists. The therapist will be involved in multidisciplinary case conferences and discharge planning for patients of all ages treated at Desert Regional Medical Center.
  DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:   
•   Able to follow and implement plan of treatment under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist to ensure timely provision of Occupational Therapy services. Responsible for cost efficiency and quality of rehab services provided. •   Demonstrated competence through direct observation during assessment, treatment and care of patients as evidenced by the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs as it relates to age-specific criteria, knowledge of growth and development, and the understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served. •   Document accurately, clearly, legibly, timely (the day and time of treatment) within the scope of practice.  This will include evaluations, progress notes, reports and calls to Physicians, prescription updates, checking for authorization approvals prior to treatment and accurate charges, completing all necessary chart information to ensure accurate information for care and reimbursement. Therapists will attend and participate in care plan, daily, weekly and, discharge planning meetings and rounds as required on the unit served. •   Meet productivity standard for primary cost center. •   Promote quality patient care by monitoring and implementing change through the Performance Improvement Program.
 POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:     Valid California Occupational Therapy Assistant license OR Documentation of eligibility for valid California Occupational Therapy Assistant license    Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS Required (maintain current at all times).
