NCI Advanced (CPI) - Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills Training

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills (NCI Advanced) training equips staff with the skills to assess and address risk confidently. The Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) provides the training and the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) accredits the Crisis Prevention Institute.

The NCI Advanced program combines verbal and restrictive intervention strategies with advanced physical skills to manage high-risk situations, such as floor intervention. CPI recommends NCI Advanced training for organizations that support persons likely to demonstrate dangerous or complex behaviors.

Eligibility

Organizations select participants within their ranks to participate in training. Participants are generally leaders within these organizations.

Completion Time: 4 to 5 days plus 2 to 3 hours online study followed by a 1-hour test

Cost

• Advanced Physical Skills Blended Certification Training (4 Days) $6,099

Certification Format

• Receive access to complete the online course prior to the classroom training (2 hours)

• Complete four classroom days (~24.5 hours) for blended delivery

• Complete five classroom days (31 hours) for classroom delivery

• Receive an email that contains a link to a test

• Pass the one-hour online test

NCI Advanced Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills Training content areas include:

• Disengagement and holding safety techniques

• Prevention and verbal de-escalation skills

• Risk assessment framework

• Physical intervention techniques for high-risk scenarios

• Ability to customize training by staff risk level

• Problem-solving techniques and post-crisis learning processes

Course Dates

VI certification is valid for two years. Applicants must meet the following requirements for renewal:

• Complete a CPI-facilitated VI Renewal Program

• Pass the online exam

CPI doesn’t require any specific preparation books or courses.
