I like working here in the OR because no one is actively bullying anyone here.  Management is definitely reactive, no proactive, with focus on collecting data then sending people to HR.  The staff are quitting left and right.  No work culture to speak of, as the unit is mostly travelers at this point.  Equipment issues everywhere, from fixing OR floor bubbles with electrical tape on the tile seams to SPD and communication issues.  Some safety issues are ignored.  The patient population is surprisingly acutely ill, considering the small town.  However, the majority of surgeons are very kind and competent and helpful, and it’s definitely the remaining people who keep me interested in coming to work.  A couple surgeons here are retained even though they are actively terrible at communication and are abusive to staff.  Many ORs are experiencing similar issues. That’s why I’d rank it as par for the course. Also, Maine has SO much to see and do. It’s overall pretty peaceful here.

Very HIGH tax state - check that out before taking a contract. EXTREMELY short of help. Nurses do phlebotomy; environmental; transport; CNA and just about every job you can imagine.

The staff in the rooms were great, the surgeons were for the most part easy to work with. I was there for approximately 9 months. It is the management and charge nurse that were unsafe and down right scary to work for. Very unsafe. Not worth risking your license for this place sadly.
