Overall I loved the employees I worked with and the culture of the hospital. Staffing ratios in ER could be better. Pay is about average.

While ratios fluctuate from facility to facility and day to day, one thing I can say about this hospital is that you can count on having a helping hand when in need. The facility is clean, and most staff are approachable, but can work on including more culturally diverse staff.

Dialysis

Overall the hospital itself is very nice and the majority of my coworkers were lovely. However, the nurse manager on 6S micromanages everything and doesn't really deal with staff issues. I felt like there was a double standard for travelers vs staff nurses.

Would not recommend. Assignments are changed frequently and one will most likely be stuck in 3-4 patient assignments each shift.

EMT / ER Technician

Crouse’s Baker Regional NICU is the regional perinatal center, serving a large catchment area. They have 57 beds but will often run over that census in periods of high acuity. Unit management has a strong nursing background and you can tell they are “people first,” by that I mean that they are kind and as helpful as they can be. The permanent staff are also kind, many keep to themselves on the intensive side but help is there when you ask. While assignments are usually fair, when there is short staffing, you will take 4 baby assignments. Usual to have a foursome with complex feeders and brady spells. Cerner charting. RT and provider always in unit. Many policies are very different and old school. There are often 30+ travellers here that stay for the year sometimes- it creates a strong sense of teamwork and help all in the subintensive end. I would go back, but need a break and refresh my acute skills.

Census and acuity always dangerously high.  Not traveler friendly.  Nurse-Resident culture is toxic.
