Worked both units. Strongly recommend CVPICU for culture and support provided nurses from unit educators and charge nurses. They were very grateful I was there and treated me as one of their own. However PICU is run by 4 very toxic “charge nurses” that act as unit supervisors. They throw you under the bus, do not support you with difficult families that get verbally and physically aggressive (typical pull you off the assignment, into the office to reprimand you, then act surprised when family treats next staff nurse same way). Their pay is terrible (I was on crisis assignment at the time so my pay was good, but I couldn’t return to this hospital bc I simply couldn’t afford to duplicate on the pay—especially given how expensive Austin is)

Recommend CVPICU, avoid PICU

Management does not care about the work you do, but more about the personal drama. They have favoritism towards senior staff, it is a toxic work environment.

Management is a nightmare

There is little to no respect among radiology techs, and the environment is clickish at best. The facility can not keep a lead tech for certain shifts and use travelers as leads. Lead tech on my shift "Amanda" had a "Do as as I say, not as I do" attitude and made requests of techs that called for strong safety concerns for both tech and patient!  My contract was cut short with a one line email that showed no documentation or coachings to substantiate claims for release of contract.  And even though my contract was cut short, Ascension will not stop attempting to recruit me. I would not recommend this facility unless there is a total renewal of their management and leadership. If waiting for assistance from at least one more tech and not doing an exam that was unsafe to complete by myself cost me my contract,  then I'm happy to not be with this facility anymore
