Homestead Hospital has been a part of the south Miami-Dade community since 1940, when local physician James Archer Smith opened it as a 10-bed hospital east of Krome Avenue. Today, Homestead Hospital is a modern, full-service 147-bed facility with private rooms. Services includes an Emergency Center with 44 treatment rooms and a trauma room, a separate Children’s Emergency Center, a critical care unit, and comfortably-appointed birthing suites. Homestead Hospital is also home to the new Baptist Health Rehabilitation, a hospital-based, acute inpatient rehabilitation unit featuring individualized programs for the care of adult and pediatric patients (ages 4 and older) who are facing an acute or disabling injury or illness. In addition, our “Healthy Homestead” vision is to be a community where people prioritize health and well-being. Working with our partners in South Dade, we seek to inspire and empower our residents to improve their nutrition, fitness and overall understanding of wellness. To assist with this effort, the Grow2Heal garden on the hospital campus grows organic food that is served to patients, visitors and staff, and is also used to educate the community through school fieldtrips, health fairs, cooking demonstrations, wellness workshops, and support groups.Details
