Responsibilities

Offer functional communication, speech and language, and feeding/oral motor assessment to determine presence of a disability in these areas and (where detected) determine the current level of functioning, with consideration to the student and family needs as well as the impact of the deficit on the student's ability to derive educational benefit. Develop and implement intervention programs focused on resolving any identified condition or diminishing its functional and/or educational impact. Deliver intervention services in settings and formats appropriate to the needs and placement of the student (e.g., pull out, classroom setting, co-teaching). Maintain documentation of all contacts with parents/guardians, agency representatives, administration, ACT Office and colleagues regarding student progress and concerns as needed, adhering to KKI and departmental expectations, as well as guidelines established by MSDE and ASHA. Develop, modify and implement IEPs in cooperation with the ACT office and the LSS as prescribed at the Annual Team Meeting (ATM). Participate in intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary activities relative to student services (e.g., team meetings) and professional training (e.g., staff development activities). Assist with supporting the school mission and goals in a positive and professional manner with a student centered school culture and climate as designed by the administration as specified in school and KKI policies and procedures.

Qualifications

* *Individual must demonstrate competence across all age groups due to the diversity of the children and families served by KKI.
* *Clinical care focus is on the neonate, pediatric, and adolescent populations, as well as some adults with disabilities.

EDUCATION:

* Must have successfully completed Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology, with related clinical requirements.
* Must have Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology granted by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
* Must be have or be eligible for Maryland State Licensure in Speech Language Pathology.

EXPERIENCE:

* Must have experience working with children who have communication disorders.

We are seeking a Maryland licensed, certified speech-language pathologist to provide direct and consultative services to students in our non-public school programs. SLPs at Powder Mill Campus work with and support students with autism and other developmental disabilities in grades 2-8 working toward a high school diploma and students aged 7-21 who are seeking a certificate of completion. The ideal SLP candidate is collaborative, organized, curious and hardworking. We are seeking SLPs who approach their work in an evidence-based, student-centered manner. While prior clinical experience and knowledge about developmental disabilities and the IEP process are preferred, candidates who are eager to learn will be considered. The Clinical Assistant will provide direct care and supervision of patients admitted to the Neurobehavioral Unit (NBU) Outpatient Clinic; implement written behavioral protocols; manage aggressive, self-injurious, and disruptive patient behavior; and collect data on patient-specific target behaviors.

Hours: Mon-Fri 8:30am-5:00pm.

Responsibilities

Review and implement a variety of patient-specific and general Neurobehavioral Unit (NBU) written behavioral protocols. Accurately collect and clearly report data on specified patient behaviors; provide daily record of patient care activities. Follow department safety procedures using safe handling techniques and approved physical management procedures, including patient transport and blocking for both patient protection from self-injurious behaviors and self-protection from staff-directed aggressive behavior. Ensure the safety of surroundings. Provide physical care (washing/bathing, toileting, personal hygiene, dressing, feeding, etc.) to all patients as appropriate to the patient's level of adaptive skills and needs. Ensure patient has all appropriate personal care and treatment items at all times. Implement each patient's daily schedule of unit activities and engage patient, even during times of unscheduled specific activity, while adhering to general clinic schedule. Utilize appropriate prompting sequence, as minimally as needed, to assist the patient's ability to participate in task or activity at the highest level of independence. Modify tasks to ensure maximum patient participation and engagement. Assist in developing and implementing activities designed to increase target appropriate skills. Maintain clinic cleanliness and organization by replacing materials after use; returning supplies and materials to proper storage locations; ensuring safe, clean and well-supplied programming areas; and cleaning up after self and patients and keeping areas free of extraneous materials. Assist in training activities for newly hired clinical assistants, as needed. Assist in the assessment of adaptive, leisure, and self-help skills; potential reinforcers; and problem behaviors, as needed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

* High School Diploma or GED required.
* Bachelor's Degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

* Six months of previous experience working with the developmentally disabled and/or individuals with severe behavior problems is preferred.
