Great experience
I contracted on the 9th floor for Ortho/Trauma/Urology and it was an amazing experience. I did 3 length contracts at this facility and if there in my local area I would have stayed longer. I can't speak to the culture of other units but the staff and management on this unit was amazing, welcoming, and supportive.

Pros
Pay depending on agency, cafeteria with real food options overnight, serenity room with massage chair (only 1)
Cons
Be cautious when signing contract as RN here. 1:6 nurse patient ratio on cardiac stepdown, no bedside monitors just dynamaps with high patient acuity post invasive cardiac procedures & critical drips requiring frequent V/S. Manager aware of high acuity not appropriate pt placements, a JUST DO culture here on CVCU unit. Recruiters will only advertise unit as TELEMETRY, be aware pts are on portable cardiac monitoring but they have had invasive critical procedures. Not enough dynamaps for the q 15 V/S. Techs chart abnormal inaccurate vitals & move on to next pt, you won’t know until you check flowsheets. Charge and assistant unit manager on nights FREE no pt assignment mainly sit in office rarely see them. RT unbuilding but only handle vents you as RN will do all nebs, breathing to. If you sign contract just make sure pay is advocated because it’s very heavy.
Pros
None
Cons
4:1 patient ratios, always get worst assignments, little to no help from charge RNs, float a lot, you’re on your own
