PACU RN (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)

Location: Salem, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: Rotating days and evenings with weekend rotation; typical hours include 9:00 AM - 7:30 PM (also shifts like 10:00 AM - 8:30 PM, 2:00 PM - 12:30 AM, and 8:00 AM - 6:30 PM)
Schedule:

• 4x10-hour shifts or 2x10-hour shifts or 2x8-hour shifts
• Rotation includes 1-2 weekend shifts and 1-2 evening shifts per 4-week schedule
• On-call required: 1 holiday call, 2-3 weekday calls, and 1-2 weekend calls per 4 weeks (weekend call follows shift hours)

Unit & Patient Population

• Unit: Operating Room (Level III Trauma OR, complex community setting)
• Patient Population: Pediatric, Adult, and Geriatric
• Patient Ratio: 1:1
• Daily Census: Approximately 30-40 patients
• Bed Count: 15
• EMR System: EPIC

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Massachusetts
• Minimum 2 years of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) experience, including experience within the last year
• Minimum 2 years of total travel experience as an RN
• Minimum 2 years working as a traveler
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• ACLS certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Ability to circulate independently
• Multispecialty competence

Rotation & Call Details

• Rotating shifts required (day shifts rotate to evenings and weekends)
• On-call responsibilities include holiday, weekday, and weekend calls
• Weekend shifts include on-call hours after shift end

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Fit test for N95 respirator within 365 days of start date, updated annually (no exemptions allowed)
• Respirator Medical Clearance attestation required if fit test is needed
• TB screening: Documentation of TB skin test or negative blood test within 3 months of start date, updated if break >6 months
• Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or proof of immunity required
• Physician health statement within 365 days of start date, updated if break >6 months
• Criminal background check, Massachusetts CORI, SSN trace, national sex offender check, and exclusion checks required within specified timeframes
• Medication and advanced dysrhythmia exams with minimum 80% passing score within 365 days
• Skills checklist completed within 1 year of submission

Submission Requirements

• Resume including past 7 years of work experience with city and state
• Two references within 4 years, including at least one supervisor or higher in the skillset
• Skills checklist and candidate submission coversheet required
• License and certification primary source verification within 30 days of start date
• Confirmation of assignment form required upon acceptance and for any start date changes

Additional Notes

• Floating is not required
• Rotation to night shifts is not required
• Prior travel experience is required (minimum 2 years as a traveler in specialty)
• On-call includes coverage during and after shifts, including weekends and holidays

This position is ideal for experienced PACU RNs with strong perioperative skills, who are comfortable with rotating shifts and on-call duties in a high-acuity trauma OR setting.
