ER Registered Nurse — Alton, Illinois

Overview

• 13-week contract
• 12-hour evening/night shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Emergency department role in a 16-bed ER

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS
• ACLS
• PALS
• 2 years of ER experience
• Negative drug screen required for all panels

Schedule

• Self-scheduling available
• Block scheduling if possible
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• No call or standby requirement

Unit Details

• Separate triage area available
• No fast track
• No separate ER holding area
• One made-safe ER room for psych/seclusion
• No monitor techs; RN must read and interpret strips
• RT manages equipment
• X-ray is in the ER; CT is outside the ER doors
• Radiology transports patients unless unstable or a code stroke
• RNs and techs draw labs

Patient Care Environment

• About 65 patients per day
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4
• Common patient types include sepsis, CHF, pneumonia, suicidal patients, and abdominal pain
• All ages are treated
• Common ER drips include vasopressors and insulin

Additional Notes

• Travelers will not float unless agreed upon at hire
• Navy blue scrubs required and not provided
• 1 shift of unit-specific orientation
• TNCC is preferred
• Local rate applies within 50 miles
• 12 non-billable orientation hours; guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
• Call-off policy equals 12 hours every 13 weeks with no penalty or need to pay for the shift
