Contract Length

• 15 weeks

Schedule

• 12-hour night shifts
• Every other weekend required
• Holidays rotated

Unit Overview

• Acute care medical unit with 29 beds
• Typical patient census is 22–26
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 4–5:1 on days and 5–6:1 on nights
• Common patient types include GI bleeds, sepsis, cellulitis, CHF, COVID, comfort measures, osteomyelitis, falls, DVT, and pulmonary embolisms

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS certification
• Must be able to produce a negative drug screen
• Submission requires the last four digits of SSN, middle initial, and requested time off

Clinical Expectations

• Must titrate heparin drips
• Expected to attempt IV starts and use unit resources if unsuccessful

Unit Support and Workflow

• 24-hour charge RN coverage
• 24-hour crisis RN coverage
• Administrative supervisor available 24/7
• 24-hour PCT coverage with a 1:10 ratio
• Telemetry is monitored remotely by a house-wide telemetry department
• Inpatient phlebotomy is used for blood draws

Floating

• Float to other med/surg-like units as needed
• Does not float to ICUs
• Does not care for chemo patients

Orientation

• 2 shifts of orientation

Additional Notes

• Local candidates within 50 miles are accepted
• Staff provide their own scrubs
• No call or standby requirement
• Non-billable orientation is 12 hours
