Pediatric Acute RN
Overview
- Role: Pediatric Acute RN
- Location: Peoria, Illinois
- Contract length: 15 weeks
- Schedule: 12-hour day shifts
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Local placements accepted: Within 50 miles
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- BLS (AHA)
- PALS (AHA)
- Negative drug screen required for all panels
Unit Details
- Pediatric Acute unit
- Shared unit with Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
- 22 beds on the unit; Pediatric Hematology/Oncology occupies 10 beds
- Patient ratio: 4 patients per nurse
- Common patient types include medical/surgical pediatric patients such as hyperbili, neuro, diabetes, failure to thrive, cystic fibrosis, COVID, and ortho
Schedule and Work Conditions
- Every other weekend required
- Holidays required unless discussed and approved during the interview phase
- Call is not mandatory at this time
- Non-billable orientation: 12 hours
- Unit orientation: 2 shifts, with possible extension if approved
Clinical Support and Float Scope
- Charge RN and Pediatric crisis RN available 24/7, with administrative supervisor support 24/7
- PCT ratio: 1:8-10
- Hospitalist in house until approximately midnight, with 24/7 resident coverage
- RNs may need to troubleshoot heated high flow and BiPAP
- Monitored patients are cared for on the unit, with a Pediatric monitor tech watching the monitors
- Float scope includes other pediatric units and mom/baby for baby assignments
- No ICU floating unless experienced
- No chemo patients
Dress Code
- Pediatric-appropriate scrub top in any color or pattern
- Solid-color scrub pants
- Solid-color long sleeve under scrub top or scrub jacket allowed if cold
