PCU RN - 5N Neuro Trauma

Overview

PCU RN role on a 28-bed unit with a neuro focus and trauma ortho patient mix. Trach and vents experience is key on this unit.

Required Qualifications

• BLS (AHA)
• NIHSS
• 2 years of MS, PCU, or ICU experience
• Experience in the setting within the last 1 year
• Drip experience
• Must be open to learning vents
• Must be willing to clock in and out at the facility

Preferred

• Home trach vents experience
• First-time travelers

Unit Details

• 28 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Days 1:4-5; Nights 1:5-6, depending on acuity
• Common patient types include strokes, seizure, guillain Barre, Myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, TNK/TPA 24 hours post, endovascular neuro specialties, AMS, dementia, hematomas and bleeds, falls on thinners, farm and MVA accidents
• RT equipment includes vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapo therm, and Etco2
• Charge nurse takes an assignment
• Nurse aides are on the unit
• Self-scheduling is used
• Orientation includes 1 shift of General and 1 shift with a preceptor

Scheduling

• Every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Typically 2 of 3 winter holidays, otherwise every other holiday
• No call

Floating

• May float to sister MS units, including mixed care, cardiac, general, MS ortho, and heme/onc

Additional Notes

• Travelers can be trained on vents if open to learning
• Submission must note if the clinician has ever worked for Marshfield; if previously employed, the end date must be at least 6 months before submission
