Neuro Med-Surg Acute RN

Overview

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS
• NIHSS
• Level 1 trauma experience
• Previous travel experience
• Prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit
• Must be able to titrate drips
• Heparin drip experience

Schedule and Unit Details

• 12-hour shifts
• Every other weekend
• Every other holiday
• No call or standby requirement
• Charge nurse is present 24/7 and usually does not take an assignment unless short staffed and nurses would be above ratios
• House supervisor is present 24/7
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: days 1:4-5; nights 1:5-6
• Patient care tech support is available
• House-wide telemetry is used, so nurses do not need to read strips
• High flow is used for stable COVID only, rarely

Floating

• Floats in rotation with the rest of the staff
• When floated to the general unit floor, the traveler takes a full team
• If floated outside the general unit, the traveler only performs skills they are competent in and is paired with a nurse trained for that unit

Orientation

• 2 days of orientation, including computer and unit-specific training with an educator and one shift caring for patients with a preceptor

Other Notes

• Local placements within 50 miles are accepted
• Tattoos must be covered while on duty
• No piercings besides ears
• Negative drug screen required
