Med Surg/Tele RN - 8N Infusion/Oncology

Overview

• Role: Med Tele RN
• Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
• Facility: Marshfield Medical Center
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 12 hours
• Hours per week: 36

Unit Details

• Unit/Department: 8N
• Beds: 27
• Patient ratios: Day/Eve 1:4-5; Night 1:6, with occasional higher ratios up to 1:7 if short

Required Qualifications

• BLS
• Acute care experience
• Comfort with complex patients
• Experience with drips

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior travel experience

Clinical Responsibilities / Patient Care

• Must be able to titrate drips
• Common drips include insulin, heparin, cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, and octreotide
• Blood transfusions may be part of the assignment
• Common patient types include oncology/hematology, general medical, GI bleed, PE/DVT, sepsis, CHF/COPD, pneumonia, FTT, and weakness
• No oncology or chemotherapy knowledge is required

Scheduling

• Every other weekend
• Holidays: 2 of 3 winter holidays, and every other holiday during other times
• Block scheduling is not guaranteed

Floating

• First to float within med-surg units
• May float outside med-surg only for observer need or helping hands/tasking
• Floating occurs in 4-hour increments

Additional Notes

• Centralized tele techs monitor strips; nurses are not required to read their own strips
• Charge nurse and House Supervisor are on all shifts
• Travelers may be asked to step into charge if comfortable, especially on night shift
• RT is in house 24/7
• Possible equipment includes continuous CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow O2
• Any scrub color is allowed, but no logo from other health systems
• Orientation includes 1 day of computer training/cbt/regulatory plus one 12-hour floor shift
• Clinician must have an end date at least 6 months prior if they previously worked with Marshfield
