Adult Cardiac Intensive Care Unit RN

Overview

• 20-bed adult cardiac intensive care unit with all private, monitored beds
• 12-hour night shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Contract length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• CVICU (2 years of experience)
• CVICU experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience with swan-ganz catheters
• Experience with central line management
• Experience with arterial lines
• Experience with temporary pacemakers
• Experience with intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP)

Preferred

• ACLS
• CCRN
• More than 3-5 years of CVICU experience
• Experience with immediate post-op patients
• Experience with VAD and transplant patients

Unit Details

• Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 2:1
• Common patient population includes post open heart surgical patients, CABG, valves, CABG/Valve, dissections, AAA, vascular procedures, carotids, post cardiovascular procedures, STEMI, unstable angina, unstable N-STEMI, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, targeted temperature management, transcutaneous pacing, transvenous pacing, severe heart failure, TAVRs, cardiac-related ICU patients, ventilated patients, and overflow patients from other ICUs including COVID patients
• Specialty equipment includes IABPs, Impellas, Swan Ganz, ECMO, external pacemakers, and CRRT
• Common lines include PICC, midlines, CVC, Swans, and arterial lines
• Uses ventilators, CPAP, BPAP, heated high flow, and nitric oxide
• Charge nurses are present 24/7 and may take teams
• House supervisor is present 24/7
• PCTs are available
• Respiratory therapists are available 24/7
• Monitor techs are available
• Philips monitoring is used
• Travelers are expected to be proficient in cardiovascular ICU care
• Temporary pacemakers and multiple EP patients are common
• Scrubs are not provided
