Job Description

Under the direction of the Radiologist and CT Supervisor, the CT Technologist performs CT procedures in accordance with department protocols at a technical level. This role requires the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. The technologist is responsible for conducting a variety of technical procedures, including interventional cases, CT Angiography, and advanced 3D reconstruction. The application of independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative is crucial, along with adherence to the ALARA principle for patient safety and quality CT diagnostics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Supports and promotes the mission and values of the organization.
• Acquires scans according to the radiologist and department protocol.
• Informs patients about the exam and provides instructions to ensure cooperation.
• Assists the radiologist during interventional procedures.
• Coordinates the daily workload, scheduling inpatients and prioritizing emergency department patients while considering the outpatient schedule.
• Reviews IV Contrast Questionnaire with patients receiving IV contrast.
• Completes documentation using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
• Reviews exams in PACS for completeness before submitting them to the radiologist.
• Takes responsibility for the safety and well-being of all patients.
• Demonstrates flexibility to assist with the 24/7 coverage of the department.
• Arrives punctually for all assigned shifts and is prepared to work until the end of the shift.
• Completes all mandatory learning, competencies, and continuing education units (CEUs) as required.
• Maintains a professional appearance according to the dress code policy.
• Ensures compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Cleans, stocks supplies, and manages laundry to maintain a professional workspace.
• Performs other duties as required and consistent with this role.

Job Requirements

Job Knowledge and Skills

• Proficient in CT scan software; knowledge of GE and Siemens systems preferred.
• Familiarity with PACS software, such as McKesson Change Healthcare, preferred.
• Proficient in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems, such as Epic, preferred.
• Skilled in patient preparation, positioning, and scan acquisition as per protocol.
• Able to identify anatomy, pathology, and contrast enhancement on cross-sectional imaging.
• Competent in obtaining patient history to ensure medical necessity.
• Committed to reducing radiation exposure to patients and staff.
• Understand daily quality assurance and warm-up procedures for CT scan equipment.
• Able to troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate service needs as necessary.
• Consistently practices the ALARA principle.

Education and Experience

• Current ARRT certification is required.
• ARRT CT Registry eligibility preferred.
• NH Imaging License is required.
• BLS Certification is required.
• CT scan experience is required.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates proficiency in the above-listed areas may be considered.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

This position requires physical and mental capabilities to perform tasks that involve sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching. The role frequently involves lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, with some stress associated with the high level of responsibility for delivering quality care.
