Unit Overview

This position is located in a 30-bed adult psychiatric unit that provides comprehensive care for patients aged 18 to 65. The unit specializes in treating a wide range of mental health issues, including:

• Anxiety
• Depression
• Suicidal ideation
• Schizophrenia
• Bipolar disorder
• Borderline personality disorder
• Dual diagnosis patients with co-occurring substance use issues, including detoxification

The unit also accommodates some medically acute patients requiring interventions such as IV therapy, CPAP use, wound care, and diabetic management.

Position Responsibilities

• Provide patient-centered care to adult clients with various psychiatric diagnoses.
• Utilize an automatic medication dispensing system (Omni Cell) proficiently.
• Monitor and administer psychotropic medications while recognizing and addressing potential side effects.
• Fulfill the role of charge nurse as needed, handling admissions and discharges efficiently.
• Manage intravenous (IV) therapy and care for diabetic patients.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of inpatient adult psychiatric nursing experience.
• Active Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) License.
• Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Work Environment

The clinician-to-patient ratio is approximately 1 RN to 7 or 8 patients, promoting effective care and patient interactions. The position requires flexibility with rotating shifts, including day and evening rotations, while night positions do not require such rotation. Floating to other units may be required as needed.

Charting System

The electronic medical record (EMR) system used for documentation is EPIC.
