Job Details
We are seeking a skilled Stepdown Registered Nurse to join our Progressive Care Unit team. This position is a night shift role with 12-hour shifts, requiring availability for every other weekend. The nurse will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients in a cardiac stepdown setting.
Unit Information
- Unit Type: Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown)
- Patient Ratios: 1 to 5
- Number of Beds: 44 beds, including 8 semi-private rooms
- Common Diagnoses: Post-operative CABG, cardiovascular surgeries, CHF, atrial fibrillation, and various cardiac procedures
Responsibilities
The Stepdown Registered Nurse will be responsible for:
- Monitoring patients and interpreting cardiac strips.
- Administering medications and IV therapies, including but not limited to Cardizem, amiodarone, and dobutamine.
- Managing patients on BiPap and CPAP, including high-flow oxygen.
- Working collaboratively with a charge nurse and utilizing a 24/7 hospitalist or intensivist team.
- Providing patient and family education regarding diagnoses and treatments.
- Participating in patient rounds and contributing to care planning.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an acute care Stepdown setting.
- Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), NIHSS.
- Ability to float to ICU but will only care for stepdown patients unless ICU experience is noted.
- Experience with high-acuity cardiac patients preferred.
Orientation and Training
New employees will undergo three shifts of floor-specific orientation to ensure familiarity with unit protocols and procedures.
Dress Code and Appearance
All staff must adhere to the dress code, which includes:
- Natural-colored hair.
- No artificial nails or shellac on nails.
- No facial piercings or visible tattoos.
Additional Notes
Candidates should be prepared for a fast-paced environment with a high turnover of patients. Average daily census ranges from 32 to 38 patients, with admissions and discharges occurring frequently throughout shifts.
Flexibility around holidays and attendance is essential.
