Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring trauma level 1 and EVD experience, with night shifts and floating responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Work in a 32-bed Neuro ICU within an acute care hospital
- Care for critical care neuro patients, including those post-craniotomy, brain tumor removal, ablations, brain biopsies, and complex spine surgeries
- Nurse to patient ratios are typically 1:2 in ICU, and 1:4 when floating to telemetry units
- 12-hour night shifts (7pm-7am), with 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period and coverage of 2 out of 4 major holidays
- Floating required to all ICU and telemetry floors, with a heavier load (up to 4:1) on tele units
- Phillips monitoring equipment and ventilators in use
- Cerner EMR is used
- Responsibilities include neurology patient management, external ventricular drain care, and monitoring ICPs
- Participation in SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is required
- Strict adherence to sterile technique and hospital protocols is enforced
- Charge nurse available and does not take patients
- Steel grey scrubs required for neuro floors, and natural hair color and no facial piercings are allowed
- Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- RNs may be placed on standby for a scheduled shift and may be first to float
Requirements
- Active RN license (State or Compact) required at time of application
- Minimum 2 years recent ICU experience in a large hospital (450+ beds) and trauma level 1 experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience of at least 3-6 months required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Strong neuro assessment and ICP monitoring skills required
- EVD experience required
- Ability to pass a dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer and a sterile technique pass/fail exam on day 1 of orientation
- Must provide two professional references: one supervisor from the last year, and one peer or supervisor from the last three years
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility as confirmed by driver’s license
- Not open to first-time travelers
- Cannot have been employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year
