Job Description

American Traveler seeks an experienced RN for a Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring position involving telemetry and requiring Level 1 trauma and critical care skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 48-bed Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit within a Level 1 trauma center
  • Patient population includes epilepsy, brain tumor, subdural hematoma, scoliosis surgeries, TBI, and other neurological diagnoses
  • Ratio is 1:4 for days and nights, with Charge RN and resource RN support
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), with 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule and rotation for 2 of 4 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Years)
  • Unit utilizes Cerner EMR and requires telemetry monitoring
  • Possible floating to Med/Surg or Tele floors may be required
  • Certain specialized equipment such as Bipap is used, managed by RT
  • Responsibilities include comprehensive neurological monitoring, assessment of cranial nerves, and management of complex neuro patients
  • Must be able to detect subtle changes in neurologic status and respond promptly
  • SIMs Lab assessment on day 1 is pass/fail and critical to continuing employment
  • Men must be clean shaven for fit test; only natural hair color and no facial piercings permitted
  • Scrub color is 'Greys Anatomy / steel'
  • Team includes PCTs, RT, SWAT IV personnel, pharmacy, and hospitalist support available 24/7
  • Self-scheduling is utilized for shift assignments
  • Previously employed nurses by affiliated health systems in the past year are not eligible

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of application
  • Minimum 2 years of neuroscience/Level 1 trauma acute care RN experience required
  • Certifications required: BLS and ACLS
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to consideration (2 attempts allowed)
  • Must pass SIMs Lab for sterile field, Foley catheter insertion, and central line dressing change on day 1 of orientation
  • Strong critical thinking and neuro assessment skills required
  • 50-mile radius rule applies; candidate’s residence to be verified via driver’s license
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from the last 12 months, one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years, with employment dates and eligibility for rehire
