Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring Level 1 trauma experience, EVD skills, and strong neuro assessment abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 32-bed Neuro ICU in an acute care, Level 1 trauma hospital
  • Patient population includes critical care neuro cases involving cranial surgeries, brain tumor removals, ablations, brain biopsies, complex spine surgeries, and scoliosis repair
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2 in ICU and 4:1 if floated to tele units
  • Utilizes Cerner EMR and Phillips monitors; ventilator management required
  • 12-hour day shifts (7a–7p) with 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period and 2 of 4 major holidays
  • Floating required to all ICU floors and Tele units; first to float as needed
  • Charge nurse support available with no patient assignment
  • Will float to Medical-Surgical Telemetry units as needed with adjusted patient ratios
  • Day 1 includes a pass/fail exam on sterile technique with a study guide provided
  • SIMs Lab skills verification required on Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; failure may result in termination
  • Charge nurse available for clinical support
  • Steel grey scrubs required for Neuro ICU assignments
  • No first-time travelers will be considered for this position
  • Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing and all staff must have natural hair color and no facial piercings
  • Holiday coverage is rotated with core staff

Requirements

  • Active AZ or compact RN license required at the time of consideration
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a hospital with at least 450 beds
  • Level 1 trauma experience mandatory
  • Prior EVD and ICP monitoring experience required
  • At least 3-6 months prior travel nursing experience required
  • Strong neuro assessment skills required
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer and pass sterile technique skills lab on Foley insertion and central line dressing changes during orientation
  • Candidates may not have been employed by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health within the past year
  • Must live at least 50 miles from facility (driver’s license required as verification)
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from the last 12 months and another peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
